Ramle police arrest five for defacing street signs

Five left-wing activists were arrested in Ramle on Friday afternoon on suspicion that they had pasted Arab street names over the Jewish names featured on signs in Ramle's old city. The five arrested included four adults and one minor, who explained that they had been protesting Ramle Mayor Yoel Lavie's response to a petition by a number of Arab residents of the city that the streets in question be given Arab names. Lavie allegedly said that the "Arabs should go f*** themselves." Police reported that they would seek to charge the suspects with defacing public property.
