Ramon tells Blair Israel must renew talks with PA

Deputy Prime Minister Haim Ramon met Monday evening with newly appointed Quartet envoy to the Middle East Tony Blair while the former British premier visited Israel. Ramon told Blair that the time has come to renew talks with the Palestinians after negotiations ceased following Hamas's rise to power, Israel Radio reported. Ramon added that he was convinced Prime Minister Ehud Olmert would act to renew negotiations with the Palestinians. Blair had earlier met with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni who told him that his presence in the Middle East was important and that the establishment of a Palestinian state would only become possible after they begin to fight terrorism and would create a stable infrastructure for a government who accepts the Quartet's conditions.
