Report: Agriculture Ministry "mistreating" land

The Agriculture Ministry and municipalities do not carry out the proper supervision on construction work performed by private Israeli contractors, according to a report published by State Comptroller Micha Lindenstraus on Wednesday. The report alleged that several companies are accustomed to illegally dig ditches on land for "economic advantages at the expense of nature." According to the Lindenstraus due to carelessness, lack of coordination and misunderstandings, officials have not managed to protect land from mistreatment and destruction. "Digging without the necessary permits undermines the law and is in direct contrast to [our policy of] preserving the soil," said the state comptroller. "It ruins the landscape, creates landslides and endangers humanity," he wrote.
