Report: Gheit and Livni trying to close in on refugee infiltration

Israel and Egypt have begun to deepen cooperation regarding the prevention of continued infiltration by Sudanese refugees into Israel via the Sinai Peninsula, Persian Gulf newspaper al-Salij reported on Sunday morning. According to the report, broadcast by Israel Radio, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit spoke with his Israeli counterpart Tzipi Livni last week to discuss a cessation to the continued events. Gheit expressed his disappointment with Israeli media reports which claim that Egyptian soldiers torture the African refugees trying to enter Israel. Livni responded by saying that the reports did not reflect the official view of the government.
