Report: Hamas acquires Sagger anti-tank missiles

The military branch of Hamas acquired 'Sagger' type anti-tank missiles, Israel Radio reported Wednesday morning. The 9M14 Malyutka missile, code-named 'Sagger' by NATO, was invented in the early 1960's by Soviet Russia. It has been widely used by Arab armies against Israeli tanks, notably by Egypt in the Yom Kippur war. The 'Sagger' is a relatively primitive anti-tank missile, guided by a wire which is connected by remote control. The missile operator has the ability to change the missile's course after firing it through the remote control and thus re-aim if the target is on the move. The Russian army abandoned use of the 'Sagger', but the missile remains popular with terror organizations and armies of developing countries. 'Saggers' remain a standard staple of Syrian anti-tank units and it is estimated that Hizbullah holds hundreds of 'Sagger' units.
