An IDF officer fired in the air and aimed his unlocked weapon at Palestinians and Israeli activists during a heated confrontation with the civilian group, Channel 10 reported on Monday night. In the incident two weeks ago, members of the left-wing organization Ta'ayush came to Hirbet Manzil, a village south of Mount Hebron, to help out Palestinian residents. They were arrested by the IDF officer, who demanded that they leave the area on the grounds that it was a restricted IDF site. However, when the officer was asked to present documentation, he was unable to produce any. A verbal spat ensued between the two sides, during which the officer tried without success to control the activists. He then began shooting into the air and threatening them and the Palestinians with his gun. The IDF said in response that this was a serious incident, and that it was being investigated.
