The emergency operator service of the Israeli Police was unable to handle the volume of calls from the public due to a lack of employees, according to a Tuesday morning Army Radio report.
At the "Moked 100" station in the Tel Aviv district there was reportedly a 20% deficiency in the number of required operators, while in the central district there was a 10% lack in operators and a 4% shortage in the northern district.
As a result, operators in Tel Aviv were unable to answer approximately one-quarter of the calls they received. The shortage of operators is especially felt in the area, which has experienced a recent growth in its number of residents, and where residence place between 9,000 and 11,000 emergency calls per day.
