Russian UN envoy: Moscow meeting would energize Mideast peace efforts

Russia's UN ambassador says a Middle East conference in Moscow this summer would energize efforts to achieve a peace settlement between Israel and the Palestinians by the end of the year. Vitaly Churkin told reporters on Monday that the Moscow meeting was part of a strategy agreed to by the US, the UN, the European Union and Russia at last November's meeting in Annapolis, Maryland. Churkin said Russia envisions the Moscow follow-up meeting would energize the political efforts and give additional impetus to negotiations.
