A fisherman has been caught poisoning fish in the Kinneret in order to make it easier to catch them in his net, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Monday.
Inspectors from the fishing department discovered the suspect after fish were found dead in the marina in Tiberius but before he had taken them out of his net and sold them in the market. They confiscated his boat and made a complaint to the police, although no-one has been arrested.
The inspectors also examined random fish samples from the markets and found that none had come from unknown sources. In addition, the ministry emphasized that there was no danger to humans from eating the fish in the market or from drinking water from the Kinneret.
