Second Kassam rocket lands in Ashkelon; none wounded

No damage reported as a result of the second rocket attack on the city in 24 hours; Hamas claimed Tuesday's rocket launch.

Only a day after a Kassam rocket landed within the Ashkelon city limits for the first time, a second rocket landed in the city shortly after nine p.m. Wednesday evening. Eyewitnesses reported a number of people in shock, but no one was physically wounded and no damage was caused. The attack came mere hours after IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz said in a meeting of the security cabinet that striking Hamas' military wing would bring an end to Kassam fire on Israeli communities. Thus far, Halutz said, the army had barely acted against Hamas. During Wednesday's meeting, the Security Cabinet called for prolonged and gradual military action in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as discussing the crisis over the kidnapping of IDF Cpl. Gilad Shalit and how to respond to Tuesday's rocket attack on Ashkelon.
