The first memorial day ceremony for those killed in the Second Lebanon War is scheduled to take place Monday at 6:00 p.m. at Mt. Herzl in Jerusalem.
Bereaved families will also be holding memorializations in Kfar Giladi, at the site where reserve paratroopers were killed by a direct hit from a Katyusha rocket, at a site near where Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev were abducted, and in the Haifa train workers' workshop.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and former defense minister Amir Peretz will be absent from the Mt. Herzl ceremony. The prime minister's office claims that Olmert decided not to attend so that those who did come would be spared the rigorous security checks that the prime ministers presence would entail, Army Radio reported.
