Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom asserted Friday morning that Syria was directly involved in the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
He said that he hoped that the suicide of the Syrian Interior Minister Ghazi Kanaan was not an attempt to cover up Syrian President Bashar Assad's involvement.
Damascus suspected that the UN investigation results would find them involved in the killing, Shalom assessed.
In a CNN interview Assad denied any involvement of his forces in the assassination, Army Radio reported.
