State Attorney Eran Shendar said Wednesday afternoon that he opposed Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann's efforts to change the process through which Shendar's successor will be appointed in August.
Shendar said that in this specific situation it was 'unethical' for a triangle to exist in which Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who is being investigated for his involvement in the Bank Leumi affair, would be able to appoint a justice minister who would then appoint the state attorney, thereby completing a circle in which he could be immune to prosecution.
Shendar, who spoke at the annual convention of the Movement for Quality Government, participated in a panel discussion about threats against the law enforcement system in Israel.
