Firefighters were busy Sunday morning extinguishing a fire that broke out in a dairy after a Kassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip hit a kibbutz in the western Negev.
Six cows were killed and four others were maimed. Three people working at the cowshed were treated for shock on the scene.
The manager of the shed, Gabo Altmark, said the damage was would cause "immense" financial harm to the dairy.
Among the dead cows were two with the highest milk yield in the entire shed, he said, and the other cows, which were also suffering from shock, would likely eat less in coming days and therefore produce less milk.
Sappers who arrived at the scene said the Kassam rocket involved was unusually large. A kibbutz member estimated the rocket's caliber at 165 mm. and said that even in the kibbutz, where continuous Kassam rocket fire had become routine, rockets of this size were rare.
Earlier Sunday, two others Kassams were launched from Gaza and struck open areas, without causing casualties or damage.
