Staff-Sergeant Asaf Waxman, 28, from Rishon Leziyon, was killed and four others were lightly to moderately injured overnight Monday when an armored personnel carrier overturned during a training exercise in the Golan Heights. Katzrin firefighters were called to the scene to help rescue the soldier trapped in the vehicle, while other civilian and military medical teams treated the remaining casualties. The four injured soldiers were evacuated by helicopter to Poriya Hospital in Tiberias and the medics were forced to pronounce the fifth soldier dead after their resuscitation efforts proved unsuccessful. From the initial investigation, it emerged that the upper body of the soldier who was killed was crushed against the APC when it overturned.
