State prosecutor: Local gov't corruption thriving

State Prosecutor Eran Shendar said on Tuesday that most of the corruption in Israel was at the local government level, and that the local authorities were currently the subjects of several investigations. In an interview with Israel Radio, Shendar declared that Israel must consider the war on corruption and organized crime a part of its national security, and enlist the proper resources for that purpose. "There are those who are trying to de-legitimize the law enforcement system in order to weaken its ability to do its job," he said. He added, however, that "the public understands that the State Prosecutor's Office is operating professionally, fearlessly and without favoritism."
