Steinitz: Rafah deal never existed; gov't lied

Chairman of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Yuval Steinitz said Wednesday evening that the Israeli government lied to the public, the Knesset and the entire world about the Rafah border crossing deal with the Palestinians, saying that a deal had never, in fact, ever been reached. Steinitz, according to Israel Radio, explained that the government wanted to present a nice picture to Israelis so that US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would have an easier time completing the coveted deal for the US administration. He said that his committee had requested signed drafts of the deal, but were denied by Mofaz, who explained that parts of the draft contained top secret information.
