Suspected crime boss Abutbul sentenced to 18 months in jail

The Jerusalem District Court on Wednesday sentenced suspected crime boss Assi Abutbul to 18 months in jail for being an accessory to a weapons deal. In addition, the court sentenced reputed Jerusalem crime chief Eli Naim - commonly known by his nickname 'The Magician' - to 52 months for conspiring to commit a crime and illegally purchasing a weapon. The indictment, served in May 2006, details how Abutbul and his associates obtained an Uzi sub-machine gun, a silencer, a full cartridge and two other weapons accessories in order to supply them to Naim. According to the charges, Naim's men bought the arms from Abutbul's organization to use in the criminal underworld against rival gangs.
