Teacher strike to continue, but exams unaffected

Teachers will resume their strike on Tuesday, but exams and bagrut preparation classes will take place as planned, following a ruling from the National Labor Court on Monday night forbidding secondary school teachers to disrupt the students' testing schedule. The ruling, which came at the end of a three-day hiatus that was called Friday to enable students to prepare for Holocaust Memorial Day, also stated that teachers were not permitted to damage learning-disabled students' chances of success by depriving them of the necessary tutoring. In addition, the decision called for a 30-day period of negotiation with the Finance Ministry, but allowed the secondary school teachers to continue the strike until further notice. Meanwhile, university students were also expected to continue their week-old strike, accompanied by lecturers who agreed on Monday to join the students in protesting the proposed reforms of the Shochat Committee.
