Citing unspecified "tension," Jerusalem police announced Sunday that the Temple Mount will be closed off to non-Muslims on Election Eve.
The rare weekday closure comes just one day before Israel's elections.
Monday's closure of the Jerusalem holy site to Jewish and Christian visitors was initiated by the Jerusalem police Ilan Franco and approved by Israel police chief Insp. Gen Moshe Karadi, police said.
Police sporadically close off the ancient compound during times of high tension, and following multiple alerts over possible violence at the bitterly contested holy site.
