A judicial committee led by former Supreme Court justice Ya'acov Turkel unanimously approved Deputy Israel Police Chief Cmdr. Benny Kaniak as the new head of the Israel Prisons Service.
Kaniak was chosen to replace IPS Chief Warden Ya'acov Genot, who withdrew his candidacy for Israel Police chief on Monday night after it began to look as though the Advisory Committee on Senior Civil Service Appointments would not approve his appointment.
