Thieves broke into the offices of the National Religious Party in the early hours of Tuesday morning and stole computers containing "important and secret" material.
NRP Secretary-General Sar-Shalom Jerby said the material had been accumulated over the last few months in the run up to the election, and he hoped that the break-in was not politically motivated.
A police spokesman said "it appears that it was criminal, because of the type of break-in and because of other evidence we have."
