An 18-year-old Palestinian was arrested near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron Wednesday after he was found to be carrying an improvised pistol, two knives and a suicide note. One of the knives had the words "A Jewish soldier shall be murdered with this knife" inscribed on it. Many stabbings and attempted attacks have occurred in the same area over the past few years. Officials said that the youth might have wanted to be arrested and therefore intentionally arrived at the checkpoint carrying weapons. The youth was being interrogated by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency). Elsewhere, eight mortars fired from the Gaza Strip hit open territory in the western Negev Wednesday afternoon. No wounded or damage were reported.
