Two cops convicted of severely beating protester

A police officer, Eran Naim, and his subordinate, Avraham Eliran, were convicted Thursday of assaulting a right-wing activist who was participating in a road-blocking incident during the period leading up to the 2005 disengagement from the Gaza settlements. According to accusations, at an anti-disengagement protest staged in May of 2005, the two brutalized Akiva Witkin, one of the protesters, at one point seizing him by the nose and dragging him along the ground. Witkin was severely injured. The decision to indict the two came after footage of the incident that was posted on the internet created a public uproar.
