'Water taxes necessary for conservation'

Water taxes necessary f

The government committee investigating water management announced in its interim findings that the Water Authority acted hastily and without long-term strategic planning in coming to its decisions, Israel Radio reported Wednesday morning. According to the report, the committee also criticized deficient communications between the authority and the Infrastructure Ministry. It offered support for the drought tax and said that without another way of conserving water, the tax should be dropped - even if there is a large amount of rain this winter. Infrastructure Minister Uzi Landau is in favor of canceling the Water Authority's charter and subjecting it to the state, the station reported. The water shortage in Israel remains serious, the committee found, and the Kinneret is close to the black line. The government committee also came out in favor of raising the water taxes. The Water Authority said in response that it would study the findings.
