Meretz MK Zehava Gal-On filed a petition Monday to the High Court calling on the Winograd Committee to announce a precise timetable for publishing the testimonies of their main witnesses.
Gal-On, who has continued to demand that the State publish the censored testimonies of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Amir Peretz and former chief of General Staff Dan Halutz before releasing the interim report of its findings, said that "if the public sees a report made up of conclusions alone, without any other information by which they could form an evaluatation, the report would lose all moral value as the public would be unable to judge it."
She emphasized that publishing the testimonies before releasing the interim report of the findings is vital for the main object of the committee, which she emphasizes is examining the truth.
Gal-On, who has been pressing the committee for transparency in its proceedings, had already petitioned the court once before, demanding that it allow the public to hear the last witnesses to appear before the committee and for the committee to publish the minutes of the hearings on the same day they were held.
The court accepted Gal-On's premise that the Winograd Committee's deliberations should be more accessible to the public and ordered the committee to publish the censored testimonies 'in reasonable time.'
The MK also accused the committee Monday of backtracking on its committment to publish the protocols and added that due to this and "the committee's disgraceful beahviour, it should publish the main testimonies immediately and put forth a precise timetable to publish the rest, in order to keep the public's faith."
The government appointed the Winograd Committee to investigate Israel's preparedness for the Second Lebanon War, which began last July 12, and its conduct of the fighting.
