Yad Vashem contacts UN chief over Darfur genocide

Chairman of the Yad Vashem Council Yosef (Tommy) Lapid, and Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev submitted a letter on Sunday to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon demanding that the United Nations act to stop the atrocities occurring in the Darfur region of the Sudan. "It is impossible to be satisfied with protests from the international community and declarations from the UN when genocide is occurring with the approval of the Khartoum government," the letter stated. "We need to do our utmost to ensure that the UN Security Council will accept a resolution to send troops that would take control of Darfur and impose law and order." "Every day that we delay, we add thousands of names to the list of those killed," the letter continued.
