Zelekha deputy alleges nepotism in appointments

Accountant-General Yaron Zelekha has moved to appoint several personal associates to positions in the Finance Ministry without publishing bids for the jobs, Deputy Accountant-General Adi Rivlin told Israel Radio late Sunday evening. In a letter to State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss, Civil Service Commissioner Shmuel Hollander, and Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson, Rivlin urged them to block the appointments and to ensure that a fair search for employees was conducted. Rivlin said that there were more qualified, "more professional" candidates for the positions in question, and said that the state could not afford to have inappropriate appointments made to positions that controlled significant portions of the state budget. Zelekha has not yet responded to Rivlin's allegations.
