Austria: Man jailed for vandalizing Jewish school

A Vienna court sentenced a Croatian man to 15 months in prison Wednesday for vandalizing a Jewish school in the Austrian capital late last year. The 24-year-old man, who was not identified, was arrested in the early hours of the morning on Nov. 26 after he smashed windows, doors, restrooms and other objects inside the Lauder Chabad school with an iron rod. "There are too many Jews in this country," the Austria Press Agency quoted the man, who entered Austria as a tourist in mid-November, as telling the court. The damages totaled some €150,000 (US$195,205), APA reported. Vienna's Jewish Community said the sentence was "completely inadequate and baffling."
