A Jewish family who have made a US$184 million claim against German retailer Karstadt were in Berlin Monday seeking redress for prime Berlin property lost under the Nazis.
Barbara Principe, of Newfield, New Jersey, and two of her grandsons traveled to the German capital after retailer Karstadt Quelle AG said last month it will appeal against a ruling in the family's favor.
KarstadtQuelle said Friday it would go ahead and file its appeal next year, despite the family's latest appeal. It has forecast that it could take five years to exhaust the legal process.
"We don't have any other possibility, because we are committed to our shareholders, who otherwise would put forward a counterclaim," spokesman Joerg Howe said Monday. "That means we need a final legal clarification of this case."
The Lenne Triangle was sold to developers after German reunification for €145 million and KarstadtQuelle insists the sale was legal.
