A Jewish organization that monitors anti-Semitic activities in Canada said Friday it suspects a Russian group is behind a rash of swastikas that were spray-painted in a Jewish neighborhood of Montreal this week.
B'nai Brith Canada said the swastikas were found at seven locations in the Cote-des-Neiges and Notre-Dame-de-Grace neighborhood, near a Jewish school and community center in the French-speaking financial and cultural capital of the province of Quebec.
Two of the sites were spray-painted with the Internet address of a Russian national socialist Web site www.nso-korpus.info, a site that includes a photo of Adolph Hitler and quotes excerpts from his Mein Kampf autobiography.
Although police have no suspects and there have been no eyewitnesses, the language of the site leads B'nai Brith to suspect the Russian group is involved, which would be a first, said spokesperson Leah Berger.
