In a precedent-setting case, a 24-year-old Haifa man who allowed his girlfriend to drive his car when she had no driver's license has been convicted of causing her death by negligence, reports Yediot Haifa. A Haifa Magistrates' Court judge said the man should not have allowed his girlfriend to drive the vehicle, and should have realized that she was a danger to herself, to passengers in the car and to other people on the roads. According to the report, the girlfriend, whose age was not stated, was killed when she swerved out of her lane and hit an electricity pole at 127 kmh in the May 2004 accident. Her boyfriend, who was in the passenger seat, was severely injured. The judge said there was a clear causal connection between the negligence of the accused and the deadly accident, and found him guilty on the charges. Sentencing was deferred to an unstated later date.
