Haifa has just released its financial report for 2006, and the city was delighted to report that it was the "best for the past decade," with a surplus of NIS 19 million, reports Yediot Haifa. According to city treasurer Jacky Vakim, the amount of municipal taxes collected rose by eight percent to NIS 870m., enabling the city to significantly reduce its operating deficit and its debts to banks. Vakim praised the city's "efficient and well-oiled" financial system for the results.
