Garbage complaints pile up

The report said the city was responding to the increased complaints about garbage by changing its reporting system.

The number of Haifa residents complaining about garbage problems to the municipality's 106 hotline tripled between 2006 and 2007, reports Yediot Haifa. The number of complaints about this issue rose by 224 percent to 17,000 in the period between July and September this year, compared to the same period last year. According to the report, overall there were 45,000 calls made in the three-month period measured this year, a rise of 50% from the same period last year. Residents were also particularly concerned about water, sewage and drainage, with 6,600 calls on these topics, and about the disrepair of roads and sidewalks, with 4,400 calls on this issue. The report said the city was responding to the increased complaints about garbage by changing its reporting system. It also said the city could not say how many complaints had been resolved to residents' satisfaction.
