Hod Hasharon first for car thefts

City officials have begun working on setting up a police station in the city, which has been under the jurisdiction of Kfar Saba Police until now.

Hod Hasharon has won the dubious honor of having the largest number of car-related break-ins and thefts out of 33 cities, reports local.co.il. And the city came in third in the number of apartment break-ins, although it gained some comfort by coming in last in the number of rapes and murders. City officials have begun working on setting up a police station in the city, which has been under the jurisdiction of Kfar Saba Police until now. According to the report, Hod Hasharon had 26.6 car thefts for every 10,000 residents, putting it in first place out of the 33 largest cities in Israel. The large number of car thefts was attributed to the city's close proximity to the Green Line. Residents have reportedly begun demanding that Hod Hasharon have its own police station, both because of the large number of thefts and because the city has grown rapidly in recent years. The report said that Mayor Hai Adiv and police officials met last month to discuss the issue, and have agreed to set up a police station next year. Some residents said the new station could not be built quickly enough.
