Ra'anana Mayor accused of chasing French vote

He agreed to sponsor a musical evening for the city's large French population.

Ra'anana Mayor Nahum Hofree is being accused of chasing after the French vote in the coming municipal elections after he agreed to sponsor a musical evening for the city's large French population, reports the Hebrew weekly Ha'ir-Tzomet Hasharon. Sources said Hofree agreed to allow the city to sponsor the evening, which was held in celebration of Ra'anana's 86th birthday, as part of an attempt to win the support of the city's many French residents before the elections. But a municipal spokesman said the mayor was merely showing his support for the community's initiative in celebrating the city's birthday, and was showing his appreciation for the contribution of French immigrants to Ra'anana, "of which they have become an integral part."
