Kfar Saba's champion boys' and girls' high school volleyball teams have been devastated to learn that the city does not plan to help fund their trip to Italy to compete in the International School Sports Federation world championship this May, reports www.local.co.il. Both the boys' and the girls' teams from Kfar Saba's Glili high school were victorious in the Israeli national tournaments recently, giving them the right to represent the country internationally. According to the report, while the Education Ministry will provide 40 percent of the cost of the trip, the youngsters were expecting that the city would come up with the remaining NIS 100,000 needed, as it has done so in similar situations in the past. But this time the city says it does not have the funds. A municipal spokesman said the national win came after the 2008 sports budget had been set, and so the money could not come from that department. The spokesman said the city was still discussing the issue and hoped it would be able to find the funds in other sources. The teams' coach said that if the city did not pay, the teams would be unable to afford to pay for themselves and would not go to Italy. He said the girls' team would be replaced by Hod Hasharon's girls' team, "which is the last thing we want to happen."
