Only 37% of the buses used to transport Tel Aviv kids to and from summer activities met maintenance standards in a recent check.

Fifteen percent of the buses used to transport Tel Aviv's children to and from summer activities were found to have serious safety flaws and were ordered off the roads in a special operation by the Transportation Ministry last week, reports www.local.co.il. And almost half the buses checked contained smaller faults that required repairs but did not necessitate their being removed from the roads.
According to the report, 25 of the 170 buses checked (15%) contained serious safety defects in their structures, tires, steering or brakes. The owners were ordered to rectify the faults immediately before being allowed to use the buses again. And in a further 82 buses (48.2% of the total) other, less serious flaws were discovered and the owners were required to sign a commitment that they would rectify them. Just 63 buses (37%) were found to meet the required standards.
The operation was carried out on buses used to take Tel Aviv children from summer day camps on excursions to water parks such as the Meimadion in Tel Aviv, Park Nahshonit in Kibbutz Nahshonim and Yamit 2000 in Holon.
