The city comptroller is investigating an allegation that the municipal building company Ezra U'Bitzaron gave work worth more than NIS 1 million to a contractor without a public tender as required by law, reports Yediot Tel Aviv. Comptroller Haya Horowitz has opened an investigation into how the contractor who was originally chosen to renovate the colonnades in Rehov Ibn Gvirol was halted just days before work was due to begin, and the job was transferred to another contractor. According to the report, several irregularities have already been exposed at Ezra U'Batzron, including unauthorized high salaries for senior employees, and company cars for fully half the company's workers. Now the city comptroller is investigating the Ibn Gvirol contract after one manager complained that it had been improperly transferred from one contractor to another. An Ezra U'Bitzaron spokesman denied any wrongdoing.
