Hod Hasharon Mayor Hai Adiv is being accused of causing "serial cancellations" of city council meetings because he allegedly fears being outnumbered by opposition members, reports www.local.co.il. Council meetings have been cancelled several times in recent months, leading opposition members to question if Adiv is worried about losing a vote. According to the report, the mayor is supposed to call a council meeting on the second Sunday of every month, but no meetings have been held recently. Opposition members say Adiv is fearful of being outnumbered, with two of his coalition partners recently quitting and moving to the opposition, causing it to form a majority. A spokesman for Adiv said the mayor saw "no point in confronting council members through the pages of a newspaper" and in giving publicity to politicians "whose utterances are unsuccessful and removed from reality." The report pointed out that if the mayor does not call a council meeting, councilors have the right to convene one themselves.
