Some 768,000 elementary school children and 347,000 kindergarten children around the country began their summer holidays this week, and about one-third of the total are expected to take part in day camps (kaytanot), reports www.local.co.il.
The Education Ministry has issued a list of tips for a safe summer for children, among them: swim only at beaches with lifeguards, and then only between the flags; wear hats and sun protection cream when outdoors; take water on all trips and drink plentifully; avoid playing at building sites, abandoned houses, wells, canals, and near roads; and fly kites only in open areas where there are no electricity lines.
