Herzliya Councilor complains of irresponsible watering

Councilor Yaron Olami said he once again saw public gardens being watered during the hottest part of the day.

A Herzliya councilor has issued a complaint that the municipality is continuing to water public gardens in the middle of the day despite previous warnings and despite laws limiting watering in summer to before 7 a.m. or after 7 p.m., reports www.local.co.il. Councilor Yaron Olami, who complained publicly several weeks ago about the city's irresponsible watering, said that last week he once again saw public gardens being watered during the hottest part of the day. According to the report, Olami quickly wrote to the city, saying that having already brought its attention to the matter once, he was "surprised to see the municipality watering plazas and gardens all week at lunchtime, at the peak of the day's heat." He said this behavior was "irresponsible and annoying" and he hoped it would end immediately and the city would abide by the law. A municipal spokesman responded that the city was careful to water public gardens during permitted hours only, but sometimes it was necessary to turn on the sprinklers in the middle of the day to check their direction, and in such cases they were turned on only "for a short time."
