New moms get a good feed from Chabad

For two weeks, the religious organization will deliver a generous breakfast daily free of charge to Ra'anana women with newborn babies.

Ra'anana's Chabad House has launched a new initiative to help support women who have just had babies, reports www.local.co.il. For two weeks, the religious organization will deliver a generous breakfast daily free of charge to Ra'anana women with newborn babies, and will provide them with much-needed support and advice. According to the report, the new project is a direct continuation of Chabad's existing "Shifra and Puah" service, named after the Biblical midwives, which supplies hot Shabbat meals for four weeks to women who have recently had babies. That service caters for some 15 women per week in Ra'anana, using about 100 volunteers. A Chabad spokeswoman said a professional cook was being used in the new project to prepare healthy and tasty home-made breakfasts, including quiches, fresh rolls, salads and other items. She said the newly delivered mothers "greatly appreciate" getting such assistance during the difficult days after giving birth, and many eventually go on to become volunteers themselves.
