New road to open this month

A municipal spokesman said the project was important for residents of the western side of Herzliya.

Herzliya will open its new Rehov Naomi Shemer to traffic this month after spending NIS 30 million on straightening and upgrading the former Kvish Hawadi, reports www.local.co.il. The city has installed a new drainage system, traffic lights and an acoustic wall along the old highway, and is now building a new park on the western side of the road. A municipal spokesman said the project was important for residents of the western side of Herzliya and would reduce traffic congestion in the area. Famed singer/songwriter Naomi Shemer, who wrote such classics as "Jerusalem of Gold," among many others, died in 2004 shortly before her 74th birthday.
