Rapid response teams, designed to provide initial defense until regular forces arrive in a case of a terror attack or enemy infiltration, were created by the IDF and are supported on a regular basis by it.
Team activities are backed by a special Central Command directive to give them responsibility for the day-to-day security in settlements. To remain well trained, the teams, made up of reserve soldiers, undergo exercises once a year on a Central Command base.
Home Front Command provides the teams with combat and defense equipment, while Central Command provides the rifles in accordance with the authorization of defense officials who conduct regular, strict inspections. In the event that criminal charges are brought against a resident, the IDF, in accordance with police orders, confiscates arms.
In addition, Central Command utilizes means such as periodic inspections to ensure that the proper use of the arms is carefully maintained.
The IDF is not aware of the organizations (Mishmeret Yesha) mentioned by The Jerusalem Post. It should be stressed that these organizations' training and use of the rapid response teams is not connected with or supported by the IDF.
