A suspected suicide attacker set off a bomb near a police post at a busy crossroads on the outskirts of the northwestern Pakistan city of Peshawar Friday, killing himself and wounding two policemen, an official said.
The policemen were not seriously hurt in the explosion in Pishta Khara, on the southern outskirts of Peshawar, said Kiramat Khan, a Peshawar police officer.
Police suspect that the man killed in the blast was carrying the bomb but it was not known what he intended to target, said Iftikhar Khan, a police investigator.
Police identified the attacker with a single name, Nadeem, and said he was a 19-year-old man from Pishta Khara. The motive for the bombing was not clear.
Pakistan has seen a spate of suicide bombings and rocket attacks on its security forces and attempts on the life of its president since the country became a US ally in the war against terrorism.
