A minibus carrying passengers crashed with a truck early Saturday, killing eight people and wounding eight others in one of Egypt's poorly maintained highways south of the capital, police said.
The two vehicles were driving at high rates of speed when they crashed about 60 kilometers south of Cairo on a main highway that connects Cairo and its twin city of Giza with the rest of the southern cities, the police official said speaking on condition of anonymity, because he wasn't authorized to speak to the press.
The driver of the minibus was among the dead. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the official added.
