Police found abandoned explosives and detonators on a Beirut street Thursday, the second such discovery this week, sowing fear in a public still recovering from the recent bombings of two commuter buses and street clashes.
The explosives, 19 sticks of TNT, weighing a total of about eight kilograms (about 18 pounds), were contained in a wooden box abandoned next to a street side garbage container in Ashrafieh, the Christian sector of the Lebanese capital, police said.
Police were called in and traffic was blocked as sappers examined the box.
A search of the area uncovered another box about 100 meters (yards) away containing 13 detonators, police added.
