The Palestinian Authority parliament voted Monday that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas must form a new government within two weeks. The proposal, presented by the parliament speaker, was adopted by a vote of 43-5. Initially, the parliament had planned to vote on a no-confident motion against the government, but that vote was replaced by the speaker's proposal. Abbas can leave the formation of a new government to Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei, or he can make changes in the existing government and call it "new," Israel Radio commented Monday afternoon.
