Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas stated Friday that he felt he had convinced the United States government to agree to Hamas' participation in the January elections.
Abbas affirmed that in a democracy, everyone has a right to participate in elections, and that he would not demand that Hamas commit to stop violence, Israel Radio reported.
